AMS acquires Aberdeen based Infinity Partnership – Daily Business

Building scale: Simon Cowie and Steven Fraser

AMS Accountants Group has acquired Aberdeen-based accountancy and advisory firm Infinity Partnership, as it continues its expansion into the Scottish market.

Infinity, which employs 35 staff and serves more than 1,500 clients, will form the foundation of AMS’s operations in Scotland.

The firm’s office in Carden Place will become AMS’ regional hub as the business looks to grow its presence in the north-east.

All Infinity staff will be retained as part of the acquisition, with AMS committed to investing in the team and will be actively recruiting across a range of specialist areas for the planned growth.

Infinity’s founder, Simon Cowie, will remain with the business as the Aberdeen managing director, continuing to lead the team locally alongside AMS’s regional managing partner, Steven Fraser.

Mr Fraser will also continue to play a key role in the future of the combined business as it develops in Scotland, supported by Wendy Atkinson as director of growth and partnerships (Scotland).

The two firms have worked closely together over the past year on a range of client engagements, including audit and both corporate and tax advisory projects, and the acquisition builds on that existing relationship.

For Infinity’s clients, there will be no immediate changes. They will continue to work with the same team, with the addition of access to AMS’s wider capabilities, including audit, tax advisory, payroll, employment taxes and debt advisory.

Mr Cowie said: “We’ve built Infinity over the past 15 years into a strong, relationship-led firm, and it was important to find the right partner for the next stage. AMS brings additional scale and capability, which will benefit both our team and our clients, while allowing us to retain what has made Infinity successful.

“I’m very much looking forward to continuing to lead the business locally and building on what we’ve already created as part of AMS.

“:Having worked closely together over the past year, it quickly became clear that there is a strong cultural fit between the two firms. Combined with AMS’s specialist capabilities, this felt like a natural next step for the business. I’m confident this will be a real success for both our team and our clients.”

Steven Fraser, regional managing partner, added: “This is an important step in building our presence in Scotland. Infinity is a well-established firm with a strong reputation for investing in its client relationships and building long-standing partnerships with the businesses it supports. Bringing the business into AMS gives us a solid platform to grow from in the region.

“The deal is part of AMS’s wider strategy of growing its regional presence by acquiring established firms with strong local reputations and trusted client relationships.”

AMS’s expansion is backed by Macquarie Capital, and continues the group’s plan to build a £20 million Scottish business.
