Walker\u2019s Shortbread signed up tennis ace Andy Murray<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

One of Scotland\u2019s best-known brands and a business with just three employees are among\u00a0 those recognised in the 60th anniversary of the King\u2019s Awards for Enterprise.<\/p>\n

Walker\u2019s Shortbread, which recently signed up former world number one tennis star Andy Murray as a global ambassador, receives an award for international trade.<\/p>\n

It is joined by McKerr Farming, a rural enterprise creating a model for low impact living in South Lanarkshire which is recognised for sustainability.<\/p>\n

The other Scottish recipients are: Innovation<\/strong> \u2013 Maritime Developments, Aberdeen; Vascutek, trading as Terumo Aortic, Renfrewshire; International Trade<\/strong> \u2013 Clarus Networks, a satellite company in West Lothian; Exceed Holdings, the world\u2019s largest well and reservoir management company in the energy sector, Aberdeenshire; The Caledonian Tree Company, a manufacturerr of the world\u2019s most advanced plant containters, Midlothian; Sustainability<\/strong> \u2013 The Edinburgh Remakery, repairing discarded products, Edinburgh.<\/p>\n

There are 186 recipients across the UK\u00a0as the Awards expand to champion the next generation.<\/p>\n

The King\u2019s Award for Enterprise \u2013 Young Founder will spotlight those aged 18\u201330 who are actively leading their businesses and building success with impact.\u00a0?\u00a0<\/p>\n

Overall, 76 businesses have been recognised for International Trade, 52 for Innovation, 36 for Sustainability and 22 for Promoting Opportunity (through social mobility).\u00a0<\/p>\n

SMEs accounted for 164 (89%) of which 24 (13%) were micro-businesses with 10 or fewer employees.<\/p>\n

Blair McDougall, Minister for Small Businesses and Economic Transformation said:\u00a0 \u201cA huge congratulations to every business receiving awards this year, who once again have illustrated the best of British innovation and talent.\u00a0<\/p>\n

His Majesty\u2019s Lord Lieutenants \u2013 The King\u2019s representatives in each county \u2013 will be presenting the Awards to businesses locally throughout the year. One representative from each successful business will also be invited to a special Royal reception event.<\/p>\n

The recipients pass a robust assessment process, judged by experts from industry, academia, the voluntary\u00a0sector\u00a0and senior officials in Whitehall. On that basis, each year, The King\u2019s Awards for Enterprise recipients are recommended by the Prime Minister and approved by The\u00a0King.\u00a0?\u00a0<\/p>\n
